Luton Town have seen an approach for Newcastle United starlet Elliot Anderson rejected, ahead of a temporary move to the Championship club this summer, as per a report from Chronicle Live.

The Hatters, who have previously expressed an interest in the 18-year-old, were unable to transfer their interest into a done deal in January, and it appears that they will not be lucky this time around either.

The teenager has missed the club's entire pre-season schedule with a hip injury, and the report also states that Newcastle would like to keep a close eye on Anderson over the next few months.

Anderson is considered a first-team squad member at Newcastle, after featuring on the bench a few times last season, and he even made his debut for The Magpies, during a 3-0 defeat against Arsenal.

The talented youngster made 18 Premier League 2 appearances last season, scoring eight times and assisting a further three.

Anderson also represented the club's U23s in the EFL Trophy last season, scoring a brace against Bolton Wanderers in November.

The verdict

Luton boss Nathan Jones has made it no secret that he is after one more midfielder this summer, but it remains to be seen if they are looking for an advanced option.

The Hatters have assembled a squad this summer which is built on versatility and athleticism, and that would have been abilities that Anderson would have brought to the squad.

It appears that Luton's search for a midfielder will go on at this point and could be one to keep an eye on as the deadline nears.
