Newcastle United have joined the race to sign West Brom defender Kieran Gibbs, Turkish outlet Sabah have reported.

Turkish giants Fenerbache are also thought to be interested in Gibbs, but with West Brom reportedly asking for €3.5million for the left back, Newcastle's interest is expected to present a problem to the Istanbul based club.

The former England international has made a total of 74 appearances in all competitions since joining the Baggies from Arsenal in the summer of 2017, and still has two years remaining on his contract at The Hawthorns.

Despite that it is thought that the 29-year-old could still leave the Midlands club this season, with The Express and Star recently reporting that the left back is one of a number of first team players that West Brom may consider selling in the summer transfer window, as they look to reduce their wage bill after their failure to win immediate promotion back to the Premier League last season.

This would not be the first time that West Brom and Newcastle have done business recently, with a season long loan swap deal that saw Salomon Rondon move to St James' and Dwight Gayle switch to The Hawthorns, ending with both players proving a hit in their temporary homes.

The verdict

I think this would be a good signing for Newcastle.

Gibbs has plenty of Premier League experience from his time at Arsenal, so he would be a welcome addition to The Magpies back line.

Given his influence at The Hawthorns, you feel he could be a big miss for West Brom, and with rumours around other key members of the squad continuing to grow, you feel this could be a long summer for the Baggies faithful.
