Newcastle United remain locked in talks with Salomon Rondon as Rafa Benitez looks to add the West Bromwich Albion forward to his squad at St James’ Park.

Lee Ryder from The Chronicle has taken to Twitter to deliver an update on Newcastle’s pursuit of Rondon, confirming talks are taking place, but no £4m loan fee has been agreed.

Rondon could well be on his way out of the Hawthorns between now and the end of the month, with West Brom preparing themselves for a return to the Sky Bet Championship.

The Magpies are amongst the clubs keen to secure his service ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, as Benitez’s looks to build on an impressive first year back in the top-flight.

The 28-year-old has spent the last three years with West Brom, 24 goals in 108 Premier League appearances for the Baggies.

Last season, during West Brom’s relegation campaign, Rondon made 36 Premier League appearances, only missing out on two occasions across the 38-game campaign.

In those 36 appearances, Rondon bagged seven goals and a further three assists.

The powerful striker also chipped in with three goals in the cup competitions.

The Verdict

Rondon would be a good addition at St James’ Park, and under Benitez, could really begin to thrive.

Newcastle will be wary that they can’t allow negotiations to stretch for too long, however, as Benitez needs to start finalising some deals ahead of the new season.

Supporters in the North East are beginning to become frustrated with Newcastle’s disappointing transfer pursuits.
