Rafael Benitez has confirmed that Newcastle have rejected two bids for Spanish forward Ayoze Perez, reports BBC Sport.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move away from St James’ Park this summer following his sides relegation to the Sky Bet Championship, with a shock move to Spanish giants Barcelona reported earlier in the summer.
Perez scored six times in 34 Premier League appearances and signed a new contract with the club in February, extending his stay on Tyneside to to the summer of 2021.
Benitez was quizzed on the potential departures of some of his top stars and he admitted to the BBC that there have been offers for the Spaniard.
‘This year we have received two offers. We don’t want to sell him.
“He has been working very hard during the summer, he is doing well. Directly, one coach was calling me, asking for him, with a good price to be fair.”
The Toon Army has signed eight new players this summer as Rafa Benitez has set about rebuilding his squad following their relegation from the Premier League.
However, the club have also resisted offers for their top stars with Moussa Sissoko in particular being linked with a move away from Newcastle.
The Geordies begin their Championship campaign on Friday night as they travel to Craven Cottage to kick off their promotion campaign.
