Premier League side Newcastle United look set to give up their pursuit of Hull City forward Jarrod Bowen.

The Tigers star is a wanted man this summer following his goalscoring exploits last season at the KCom, but according to Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder, Newcastle United won't be the club to stump up the £20m asking price for Bowen.

Newcastle are in the market for new players after seeing Rafa Benitez walk away from the club and Steve Bruce take the reins at St James' Park, and having already signined Brazilian striker Joelinton, the Magpies were keen on adding Bowen to the ranks.

However, Hull's asking price for Bowen appears to be putting off Mike Ashley and co, and for the time being, it looks like Hull will indeed be starting the season with Bowen in the first XI.

Bowen smashed in an impressive 22 goals last season as the Tigers struggled to maintain any sort of push for the play-offs under Nigel Adkins, and with Adkins now gone, Bowen's future is also up in the air somewhat with the Yorkshire club.

The Verdict

Hull are right to be demanding such a fee for a player who is simply integral to anything they want to achieve in the coming season.

£20m is about the going rate these days for a top young player, whether that be outside the Premier League or not, and if Newcastle want him, they'll have to stump up the cash, it's as simple as that.

Bowen's goals and overall performances are too important for Hull, and it's not like he is going to lose any value barring a terrible injury or severe loss of form.
