Tom Cairney is a transfer target of Leicester City and Newcastle, according to The Sun.

The Fulham midfielder has had another brilliant season as he has helped the Cottagers into the play-offs for a second consecutive season with an automatic promotion spot an outside possibility.

Slavisa Jokanovic has created a short passing possession based side which is able to counter-press, and has a high technical standard. Cairney is the heartbeat of the team with Ryan Sessegnon being the star.

The nature of Fulham's style means that the star players are attractive to Premier League clubs because of the belief that they will fit into the higher division seamlessly due to the high level they are already playing at.

The Sun reports that the Premier League clubs are preparing a £20 million-plus offer, which is likely to be successful if the Cottagers aren't promoted. However, Cairney is likely to sign a new deal if they are promoted.

The Verdict

Cairney deserves to play in the Premier League due to his obvious talent and the fact that he is starting to reach his peak because he is 27-years-old.

It would be preferable to see him with Fulham in the Premier League because it would be interesting to see if they can translate their success into the Premier League, and without Cairney they would be lacking the key player.

However, he should move up to the Premier League if the Cottagers don't get promoted with Leicester being the better prospect out of the two clubs interested.
