According to an exclusive report by Football Insider, Newcastle United are interested in signing Joe Bryan.

Bristol City left back Joe Bryan has emerged as a target for Premier League outfit Newcastle United, who are ready to make a swoop after losing Paul Dummett to injury.

Paul Dummett was a regular for Newcastle last season but the Wales international sustained a hamstring injury against Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Rafa Benitez does not trust Massadio Haidara to fill in at left back so he is upping his hunt to strengthen in that department after being forced to play Ciaran Clark there at the weekend.

His search has led him to Joe Bryan, who has been one of Bristol City's top performing players for a while now.

The 23-year-old has already amassed just shy of 200 senior appearances for Bristol City after working his way through their academy.

Also able to play as a central midfielder, left wing back or as a left winger, Joe Bryan is a versatile option for Rafa Benitez to consider.

The Bristol-born defender has recently attracted attention from the likes of Leeds United and Birmingham City with Bristol City desperate to hold onto their homegrown talent.

Newcastle United could now launch a bid to test the Robins' resolve.

The Verdict

Joe Bryan is an excellent player and he is comfortable in a variety of positions.

If he continues to impress at Championship level, he will surely get a Premier League move sooner rather than later.

At the age of just 23, this could be an investment for Newcastle United so Bristol City need to make sure that they do not accept any low bids for him.
