Newcastle United plotting major summer move for prolific striker to bolster frontline

Fulham striker Ross McCormack is one of Newcastle United’s top transfer targets this summer, according to the Northern Echo.

It was only last week manager Rafa Benitez signed a contract to keep him at St James’ Park for next season, and now has a list of transfer targets to get his side back into the Premier League, which includes 29 year-old Ross McCormack.

Fulham are said to be keen on trimming their wage bill with the Scotland international reportedly the highest earner at Craven Cottage, after signing a four-year deal in February.

Although Benitez is after the striker, the Spaniard wants to sit down with current Newcastle players who are out-of-contract to sort of their futures before making moves in the transfer market.

The former Real Madrid and Liverpool manager has been impressed by McCormack’s record in the second-tier, and has the right pedigree to help guide Newcastle United back to the Premier League with the Glasgow-born forward scoring 17 or more goals in four of the last five Championship seasons – including 21 for Fulham in the last campaign.

Newcastle fans, do you want Ross McCormack to become a Magpies player? Who else should Rafa be looking at to charge you back to the top-flight? Let us know in the comments below!
