Speaking to Newcastle United’s official website, Ayoze Perez has acknowledged the Magpies’ visit to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday evening will be tough.

Rafa Benitez’s side travel to Hillsborough, where two of the Sky Bet Championship’s top-six will face off, with the Magpies looking to avenge their 1-0 defeat to Wednesday on Boxing Day.

Despite both club’s battling for promotion, 18-points separate the two teams, with Newcastle fighting for the Championship title and Wednesday currently sixth, looking to secure their place in the Play-Offs.

Back-to-back victories over Wigan Athletic and Burton Albion will have given Benitez’s side confidence going into Saturday’s clash, but Perez admitted the Magpies will face a tough task, he said:

“(Sheffield Wednesday) will be a tough game, but we have to be confident, because after these two games, we have won both.

“We haven’t been as good as we wished at home – the form at home hasn’t been good at all – but we can say we won two matches against teams fighting relegation, which sometimes is really hard. We have to realise where we are, and now go to Sheffield to get three points.”

Benitez’s side returned to the top of the Championship table last night, having recorded a 1-0 victory over Burton Albion.

The Magpies lead Brighton and Hove Albion by one-point with six games of the regular season remaining.

More importantly for Benitez’s side, is their ten-point lead over third-placed Huddersfield Town, which leaves the club in a commanding position to secure automatic promotion.
