Huddersfield Town will try to secure the signing of Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons once the January transfer window opens, per Yorkshire Live.

The Terriers were in for the 24-year-old on October's transfer deadline day, however the paperwork was not completed in time.

Chairman Phil Hodgkinson hinted that the club would re-visit the deal in January last month, saying: "He’s our top target, he remains so, and what we’d rather do is get through the next 10 weeks to January and get it done then rather than bring in somebody that maybe doesn’t tick all the boxes Rolando did."

Carlos Corberan has been left with the likes of Josh Koroma, Adama Diakhaby and Isaac Mbenza after the failure to capture Aarons, but it does look like Aarons will be donning the blue and white stripes in 2021.

If the move was only halted by time running out, there should be no issues in revisiting it, and according to Yorkshire Live that seems to be the plan.

The Verdict

Aarons has held a high reputation since he was a teenager, making 14 Premier League appearances for the Magpies between 2014 and 2016.

However his career has somewhat stagnated since then. He's not made a league appearance for Newcastle since 2018, and loan spells at Slovan Liberec, Sheffield Wednesday, Wycombe Wanderers and Motherwell haven't been that productive.

Corberan must see something in Aarons though, and the Spaniard seems to be getting a good amount out of a team that hasn't cost a lot to put together - minus Alex Pritchard.

One thing Aarons will offer though is raw pace, something which the Terriers front-line is lacking somewhat, and it's plausible to think that the former England under-20 international will get plenty of game-time should the deal be completed.
