Sky Bet Championship side Newcastle United have joined Aston Villa in the race for Swansea City's Gambian winger Modou Barrow, according to the Birmingham Mail.

It was previously reported that Aston Villa was leading the chase to sign Barrow, potentially as part of a swap deal for Ghanaian striker Jordan Ayew.

However, fellow Championship rival Newcastle United have joined the race as Rafa Benitez looks to strengthen his squad even further.

Rafa Benitez has stated that he would like to bring a winger to St James Park in this January transfer window as Andros Townsend has been linked with a returned.

Recent reports are now suggesting that Newcastle United may turn their attention to the 24-year-old winger, who has been told that he can leave Swansea City in this window.

As it has become apparent that Barrow has become available, it is looking seemingly inevitable that Barrow will leave Swansea in this window, however, it is yet to be seen where his next destination will be.

Newcastle and Aston Villa fans, what do you make of the news? Would you like to see Modou Barrow join your club? Do you feel your club needs to strengthen their options out wide?
