Swansea City centre-back Federico Fernandez is attracting interest from Premier League club Newcastle United, according to The Sun

The Argentinian impressed at the Liberty Stadium last season despite the Swans' campaign ending in relegation.

Fernandez moved to South Wales from Napoli back in the summer of 2014 for an undisclosed fee and Swansea will be keen to recoup as much of that as possible.

The defender has gone on to make 117 appearances in the top flight for the Swans, but with their relegation, it looks like he will be set for a move away.

So far, manager Graham Potter has had a reasonably quiet window, bringing in just three new players so far but losing seven.

Joel Asoro, Yan Dhanda and Jordi Govea have arrived while Lukasz Fabianski, Kyle Bartley, Roque Mesa, Ki Sung-Yong, Adam King, Kenji Gorre and Angel Rangel have all departed.

The verdict

Potter will be keen to keep hold of Fernandez with the defender being one of the club's most consisted performers recently.

With the sale of Kyle Bartley and the heavy interest in Alfie Mawson they are beginning to look a bit threadbare at the back. They must bring in new targets before they sell Fernandez.
