Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle side will be bolstered by news that three key first team players are fit enough to return to action for tomorrow’s game against Barnsley, reports Chronicle Live.
Matt Ritchie and Jamaal Lascelles were both struck with a sickness bug that saw Lascelles substituted after an hour in the team’s last game, and Ritchie unable to play at all.
However, Benitez has confirmed that both players are now ‘fine’ and fit to be included in tomorrow’s squad.
Daryl Murphy is also apparently in contention to play after Benitez confirmed the striker had completed a full training session this week.
There was more good injury news as the former Liverpool boss gave an update on goalkeeper Rob Elliot, who he claimed should be fully recovered in the next two to three weeks.
However the Tyneside club are not completely free of injury problems, with Haidara, Rolando Aarons and Jesus Gamez still on the sidelines.
Newcastle fans will hope the returning players can solidify their position as contenders for the title, as the side currently sit only a point behind Norwich.
