Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote is edging closer to the Chinese Super League with Shandong Luneng.
The 30-year-old, who only has four months left on his current deal is currently undoing a medical at Shandong, according to Sky Sources.
The Ivorian international hasn’t been part of Rafa Benitez’s new-look Newcastle side all season and he’s now opted to move to the lucrative Chinese Super League, over a year since his initial proposed move to the Far East seemingly broke down.
More dynamic options such as Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey have emerged on Tyneside, with the 30-year-old coming to close to leaving for Sporting Gijon earlier in 2017.
His former Toon team-mate Papiss Cisse is currently plying his trade for the Super League strugglers, with Graziano Pelle also on the books at Shandong.
Tiote’s new employers finished 14th in the league last time out and they’ll be hoping the addition of yet another big name could spur them onto more success going forward.
