Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Abel Hernandez, with the Premier League outfit interested in a summer move for the Hull City striker.

Hernandez will be out of contract at the KCOM Stadium in the summer and looks set to depart Hull for free, ending a four-year stay with the Tigers.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are interested in a summer swoop for the 27-year-old, with Rafa Benitez keen to strengthen his playing squad at St James’ Park.

Hernandez has scored 39 goals in 110 appearances during his four-year stint with Hull, with the Uruguayan international featuring in both the Premier League and Sky Bet Championship.

The striker’s 2017/18 campaign has been plagued by a serious Achilles injury picked up in August, which has kept Hernandez on the sidelines for most of the season.

Prior to his injury, Hernandez had three goals in three appearances for the Tigers, and since returning, has built on his impressive goalscoring stats.

Hernandez has five goals in his last seven appearances, leaving him with eight for the campaign, with two fixtures still remaining.

The Verdict

Hernandez’s spell with Hull has been impressive and if it wasn’t for a serious injury this season, the striker’s goalscoring stats would make a lot better reading.

Eight goals in 10 appearances this season is still an excellent contribution, and given time, Hernandez could be an excellent Premier League striker.

Newcastle could be the perfect destination for the striker to push on and take an opportunity in the Premier League.

After such an impressive return from injury, it is hardly a surprise to see Premier League clubs taking a look at the 27-year-old.
