Newcastle United could turn their attention to Aston Villa winger Albert Adomah in the summer transfer window, according to the Mirror's Live Transfer Blog [Sunday 8th June, 17:23].

Adomah could make a move to Newcastle after an impressive season at Aston Villa.

Newcastle are in the hunt for a new winger and them signing Aston Villa's Adomah could spark a merry-go-round which sees Matt Ritchie move to Stoke City.

The Mirror's Live Blog previously reported that Newcastle were eyeing a return for Crystal Palace wide man Andros Townsend or last season's former loan star and Chelsea's versatile Brazilian Kenedy.

If they signed a replacement for Ritchie, they would sanction his £12m move to Stoke on hefty wages of £60k-per-week.

Now they could look to Adomah if deals for Townsend or Kenedy look unlikely.

The Ghana international played 44 games for the Villans last season, scoring 15 goals and adding five assists for team-mates to help them reach the play-off final.

But after missing out on promotion at the expense of Fulham, Aston Villa have now been hit with a financial crisis and they could be forced to sell some of their players with Newcastle eyeing a raid for Adomah.

The 28-year-old is said to be settled at Aston Villa but the financial situation might force them into a sale.

The Verdict

Adomah is a top player at Championship level but this would be a strange signing for Newcastle.

Whether he is an upgrade on Ritchie is questionable and certainly not worth the risk.

At 28, Adomah is not young anymore and unless they are planning on signing him for cheap and using some of the Ritchie cash to fund a move for Townsend or Kenedy, this seems peculiar business by Newcastle.
