According to the Shields Gazette, Newcastle United are not expected to renew the contracts of Vurnon Anita and Yoan Gouffran, with the pair set to leave St James’ Park on a free this summer.

The pair do not appear to feature in Rafa Benitez’s Premier League plans at Newcastle, despite playing a significant role in the club’s promotion from the Sky Bet Championship.

Anita featured on 31 occasions across all competitions, sharing the right-back berth with DeAndre Yedlin for much of the season, as well as providing cover across the midfield.

Gouffran made a significant impact in Newcastle’s title charge, making 45 appearances and scoring seven goals for the Magpies.

The duo are two of Newcastle’s longest serving players, with Anita having arrived at St James’ Park in 2012 and Gouffran in January 2013.

Benitez is expected to be extremely active in the transfer market over the summer, as he looks to mould a squad that is capable of establishing themselves in the top-flight following years of uncertainty.

It has been reported that Benitez will have £100m to spend on transfers ahead of the Premier League season, with Newcastle’s owner, Mike Ashley, publically backing the 57-year old.
