Rafa Benitez is set to finally get his man after agreeing a £6m fee for Frederico Fernandez of Swansea City, according to the Sun.

Fernandez reportedly training with Swansea this morning as the move threatened to break down, but he has since headed to Newcastle for a medical. Personal terms are not thought to play a major part in the switch.

The 29-year old has stated he wants to stay in the Premier League and with Benitez short of centre backs, the move make sense all round. The two have worked together before, both were at Napoli and are said to have a mutual respect.

Fernandez has been with Swansea since 2014 when a  €10m fee took him from Serie A to the Premier League. He's since made 117 top-flight appearances for the Swans.

Fernandez is a World Cup runner up having been a part of the Argentina side squad that lost the 2014 final to Germany.

The Verdict

This is one of those moves that has been bubbling away all summer without ever reaching the boil.

It now looks to be done, with Swansea set to pocket the cash and hopefully boost their own ranks in the coming hours. With the Sam Clucas fee too, Graham Potter could be a busy man this afternoon.

As for Fernandez, he has his move to the top flight, although the disruption at St James Park this summer might be an indication he won't be staying there come May next year.
