A host of Premier League sides are interested in signing in Bristol City defender Adam Webster his summer, according to reports from the Daily Mirror.

The Robins have already lost a key defender in Lloyd Kelly to AFC Bournemouth this summer, and after the £13million sale of the 20-year-old, Lee Johnson’s side may now be set to have a real battle on their hands in keeping Webster.

The 24-year-old has been an influential player for City since signing from Ipswich Town last season, arriving from Portman Road for a reported fee of £3.5million.

The centre-half has more than filled the hole left by Aden Flint who signed for Middlesbrough last term, and has since made 47 appearances for Johnson’s men in all competitions.

Now though, it is believed that Newcastle United, Southampton and Watford are all interested in signing the towering defender, who signed a four-year deal when he arrived at Ashton Gate last summer.

Burnley have also been credited with an interest in the player, with England defender James Tarkowski reportedly attracting interest from Wolves this summer.

Johnson will be looking to keep hold of Webster, as his side prepare to challenge for promotion in the Championship next term.

The Verdict

I think that City should stand firm and reject any interest in Webster this summer, as he is such an important player for Lee Johnson’s side.

He has made fans forget all about Aden flint, forming a magnificently solid partnership with Tomas Kalas last season.

Losing Kelly was a blow, but they can’t afford to lose Webster as well as him, especially with Jay Dasilva returning to Chelsea upon the expiry of his loan spell.
