According to the Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are set to battle with a host of Premier League clubs for the signature of Hull City’s Harry Maguire over the summer.

Rafa Benitez has a reported £100m to spend on transfers this summer, as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of their Premier League return.

The defence is one area Benitez is keen to add to over the coming months, and Maguire will be available from Hull, following their relegation to the Sky Bet Championship.

Hull lost 4-0 to Crystal Palace yesterday, which confirmed Marco Silva’s side would drop back into the second-tier after just one season back in the Premier League.

Maguire, 24, who has one-year remaining on his contract at the KCOM Stadium, has impressed for Hull this season, despite their relegation back to the Championship.

The defender has made 36 appearances across all competitions and has scored three goals.

Maguire has admitted he is happy in Hull, but conceded the Premier League was his “main aim” amid interest from a host of top-flight clubs.

Newcastle are set to be rivalled by Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Everton for Maguire’s signature in the coming months.
