Newcastle United agree loan deal for midfielder

Published

Newcastle and Marseille have come to an agreement for the loan of Florian Thauvin, according to French media outlet France Football

There were high expectations for Florian Thauvin when Newcastle snapped him up from Marseille last summer, in a deal reportedly in the region of £15m plus Remy Cabella going the other way on loan.

But the former France under-21 sensation struggled to make an impact in England and was limited to just 12 appearances.

He turned in some ordinary performances and was lambasted by Alan Shearer for his insistence on turning up to matches in a tuxedo.

He was shipped out back on loan to Marseille in January, where he got more game time and played to a higher standard. Marseille have now successfully agreed a deal to loan the 23-year-old for another season.

It appears that Rafael Benitez is reluctant to permanently get rid of the tricky winger because of the glimpses of potential he has shown.

Newcastle fans – what do you think? Is a loan move right or should you look for a permanent switch? Could Thauvin play a part in your future?
