Newcastle United agree €11m sale of midfielder

According to French website La Provence, Marseille have already exercised their “option to buy” clause in Florian Thauvin’s loan deal.

The winger is on a season-long loan from Championship club Newcastle United and both teams seem keen on completing the permanent deal.

This news report suggests that Marseille have already triggered their option to make Thauvin’s stay permanent in a deal worth about €11m.

Newcastle only signed Thauvin last season from Marseille for a reported fee of £15m and Remy Cabella going the other way on loan.

The former France youth international struggled to make an impact at St James’ Park in his twelve league appearances before returning to Marseille on loan in January.

Marseille drafted him in on loan yet again during the summer window with an option to buy, which has apparently now been completed already.

This brings an end to a torrid spell in England for the 23-year-old.

Newcastle fans – what do you think of this news? Could Thauvin have had a future with you? Is €11m a fair price?
