Speaking to Newcastle United’s official website, Isaac Hayden has admitted finally securing promotion is a “major relief”, after a difficult season in the Sky Bet Championship.

Newcastle secured their place back in the Premier League by recording a 4-1 victory over Preston North End at St James’ Park last night.

Rafa Benitez’s side have watched on over recent weeks as Brighton and Hove Albion achieved promotion, and moved within three-points of the Championship title, whilst Newcastle continued to falter.

The Magpies had failed to record a victory in their three previous Championship fixtures, but brushed aside Preston when it mattered last night.

Hayden admitted it has been a tough campaign and credited the Newcastle supporters for their contribution, he said: “It’s a major relief, just to finally get it over the line. It’s a long, long hard season in the Championship, and to do it with two games to spare is brilliant.

“To have 50,000 fans every week, cheering our names – what more can you ask for? They’ve come in their droves, home and away, and to get over the line for them – especially at home – is really nice.”

Newcastle face Cardiff City and Barnsley in their remaining two fixtures of the season, where they will be looking to close the four-point gap on leaders Brighton.

Newcastle fans… Are you relieved to see your club secure promotion with two fixtures of the season remaining? Let us know in the comments!
