Speaking to the Chronicle Live, DeAndre Yedlin has urged Newcastle United to “finish the job” this weekend and claim the Sky Bet Championship title ahead of Brighton and Hove Albion.

Brighton secured promotion to the Premier League on Easter Monday, and had the title in their grasp, requiring just three-points from three fixtures to be confirmed as champions.

However, back-to-back defeats has left the door open for Newcastle – who have also claimed automatic promotion – to overhaul the Seagulls on the last day of the season and be crowned as champions.

Should Newcastle pick up the three-points against Barnsley on Sunday lunchtime, and Brighton fail to record a victory over Aston Villa, Rafa Benitez’s side will finish top of the table.

Yedlin warned Brighton about their tough task, before playing down the significance of Newcastle’s fixture, claiming the Magpies aim to win every game, he said: “They have a tough game coming up.

“Nothing every changes here - we always want to win, whether there’s a title at stake or not.

“We always want to win for ourselves and for the fans and city.

“We have put pressure on Brighton and hopefully we can finish the job.”

While Brighton have faltered in recent weeks, Newcastle have rediscovered their best form, putting in convincing displays against Preston North End and Cardiff City to record back-to-back victories and keep the title-race alive.
