Newcastle United are set to respond to Norwich’s bid for Grant Hanley by putting in a fourth offer for the Blackburn defender, according to Football Insider.
Newcastle have been in hot pursuit of the Rovers captain’s signature in recent weeks, with reports saying they’ve had a £5.5 million bid turned down for the defender. This, however, was nowhere near the Blackburn asking price of £8 million.
Earlier on Saturday, Norwich were believed to be ready to snatch the defenders signing from under the noses of the Magpies, with the Daily Mail claiming that Alex Neil had matched Newcastle’s £5.5 million bid.
The latest twist in what has been an entertaining transfer saga of the summer so far is the fresh claim that Newcastle are set to better the bid of Norwich by Sunday evening.
The competition for Hanley’s signature is hardly surprising considering the 24-year-old’s form last season, forming a solid partnership with Shane Duffy.
Following the departures of Steve Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini in the summer, Benitez is working hard to revamp his side, with Jesus Gamez and Isaac Hayden already arriving at the club.
Newcastle fans, what do you think? Are you confident of signing Hanley, or will this saga rumble on for weeks to come? Is £8 million the right price? Let us know below!
