Newcastle set to continue spending, star striker move imminent

Sky Bet Championship side Newcastle United are closing in on a deal for Ipswich Town striker Daryl Murphy, according to HITC.

Magpies boss Rafa Benitez is making his final adjustments to his squad, and could capture the experienced Irishman before the window closes on Wednesday.

Murphy is an established Championship goal scorer and could be the man to fire Newcastle back to the Premier League in their first time of asking.

The 33-year-old has netted 50 goals in his last three seasons with the Tractor Boys and is in his final year of his contract at Portman Road.

Newcastle have spent almost £50 million on new additions this summer, and it seems like there is still plenty left in the transfer budget for players.

Signing for reputable side like Newcastle could be too good to turn down for the Ipswich hitman.

At the age of 33 years old, this could be his final chance of playing at the highest level if Newcastle seal promotion to the Premier League in May.

Benitez’s side host fellow promotion rivals Brighton & Hove Albion this afternoon, managed by former Magpies boss Chris Hughton, while Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich take on Preston North End at Portman Road.
