Newcastle set to be dealt another major defensive blow in race for the title

Newcastle United left back Paul Dummett could face a spell on the sidelines after Wales boss Chris Coleman revealed that he was injured, according to The Chronicle.

Chris Coleman was explaining why Paul Dummett was left out of the Wales national squad and he revealed that Dummett had been playing with an injury for the past few weeks.

This is just the latest defensive blow after right back DeAndre Yedlin was ruled out for a while, centre half Ciaran Clark will need assessing and young right back Jamie Sterry underwent an operation.

Wales manager Chris Coleman claims that Dummett is suffering with a heel injury and is playing on despite the pain.

He said:

“He’s got a problem with his heel, he’s played with an injection with his heel, might need another.

“He needs a rest.”

Coleman added that he would allow Dummett the rest because they have Tottenham’s Ben Davies and Aston Villa’s Neil Taylor, who are able to play left back.

He added:

“He’s not been starting, he’s been very patient.

“If we were bare defensively we would have called Newcastle but we don’t need to do that.”
