The Chronicle are reporting that Newcastle United midfielder Mo Diame has called for calm after their disappointing loss against Sheffield Wednesday.
Newcastle United slipped into second place after last weekend’s round of Sky Bet Championship fixtures after Brighton beat Queens Park Rangers and Newcastle lost 2-1 to Sheffield Wednesday.
Rafa Benitez’s side still maintained their ten point lead over Huddersfield Town, though, after the Terriers slipped up against Nottingham Forest in their pursuit of the top two.
In the race for the title, though, it was a disappointing blow for Newcastle and Diame has urged everyone associated with the club not to panic because the players are giving their all to win the league.
The former Wigan, West Ham and Hull star added that Newcastle were still in a good position and that the players need to remain “focused” and “confident” ahead of the run-in.
After the Sheffield Wednesday loss, Diame said:
“We had a big opportunity to get back at the top of the league, and it was a big disappointment for everyone.
“We have a week to recover and think about the next game, which is a massive one at home.
“The team have to stay focused and stay confident.
“We’re still in a good situation.
“Not only the fans but everyone at the club, I think, has to stay calm.
“We’re going to give everything to try to win this league.
“It’s not going to be easy, but we’re still fighting.”
