Newcastle and Wigan Athletic have agreed to Ivan Toney returning to the North East after a loan spell with the Latics.

The young forward has played a fair bit for the League One leaders this season but at the end of his half-season loan it appears as though know extension is in place for the young forward.

Indeed, he is back in the North East and it remains to be seen whether or not Rafa Benitez will use him more for the rest of the Magpies' season.

More likely than not, though, another loan deal will probably be sorted out and it remains to be seen where exactly Toney goes with the club confirming the return on their Twitter account:

The 21-year-old scored six goals in 28 games for the Latics this season as they look good to return to the Championship for next season.

He has been on loan with the likes of Barnsley during his career, too, and so maybe he'll be on his travels before too long this month.

The Verdict

Toney is a decent young player but probably not yet good enough for Newcastle.

He will hope that his work at Wigan has attracted potential suitors, though, as he aims to forge a career for himself somewhere more permanently.
