Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is ready to step up his pursuit of Jacob Murphy this summer, reports The Telegraph.

Having seen an initial bid of £8m rejected by Norwich City, Rafa Benitez is now demanding that Newcastle United return with a second, improved bid for Jacob Murphy.

Jacob Murphy enjoyed a successful breakthrough season with Norwich City last term.

Having been farmed out on numerous loans, Murphy staked his claim for a place in the Canaries' squad after impressing on loan at Coventry City in the 2015/16 season.

The England under-21 star was then handed his chance at Norwich City and he seized it.

The versatile attacking midfielder, who usually operates from the wing, grabbed ten goals and added six assists in all competitions for Norwich City last season, as well as scoring three goals in two games for their academy side in the Checkatrade Trophy.

After a full season in the Norwich first team, Jacob Murphy has attracted interest from the Premier League and Newcastle United are very keen to press ahead with this deal.

The Magpies are scouring the market for possible transfers with Rafa Benitez becoming increasingly frustrated with a lack of value for their money.

Murphy is now a top target for Benitez, who wants to test Norwich's resolve with an improved offer.

Norwich City want to keep the 22-year-old but the offer of Premier League football might be too much to resist.
