Middlesbrough face an uphill battle to keep Adama Traore at the club after North East rivals Newcastle United entered the race for his signature.

According to The Yorkshire Post, Newcastle are showing interest in the talented winger, who impressed this season for Boro.

His tally of five goals and 10 assists made him one of the most dangerous attacking threats in the Championship and it helped Middlesbrough to a top six finish.

However, Tony Pulis' side fell just short of promotion after losing 1-0 to Aston Villa on aggregate in the play-off semi-finals.

The former Barcelona youth star stood out for Middlesbrough this season and he even earned a place training with Spain's senior World Cup squad.

He could now be set for a return to the Premier League with a number of clubs said to be keen on the youngster.

As well as Newcastle, Premier League duo West Ham United and Everton are believed to be interested, and Europa League side Chelsea are long-term admirers of the 22-year-old.

The former Aston Villa star is now reportedly available for just £15m - which is half the cost of what Middlesbrough had previously hoped for.

This has alerted a number of Premier League clubs with Newcastle the latest team to consider a swoop for the Spaniard.

The Verdict

Traore has added an end product to his game this season.

Goals and assists combined with his devastating pace, strength and trickery makes him one of the most talented young players available.

At £15m, this is a no-brainer for Newcastle, West Ham or Everton as we are just starting to see Traore's potential.
