Newcastle United and West Ham United are both monitoring Queens Park Rangers’ promising attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze ahead of the next transfer window, according to The Chronicle.

Eze has been one of the stand-out performers in the Championship this campaign for Mark Warburton’s side, managing to register an impressive tally of 12 goals and eight assists in his 37 league appearances, which has seen him kick on to another level after some promising displays last term.

The 21-year-old’s performances have earned him plenty of admirers from the Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur having been previously linked with a move for the attacking midfielder, as well as the likes of Crystal Palace and Sheffield United.

Quiz: Have these 15 current and ex-QPR players ever played in the Premier League?

Given the current financial uncertainty around for all of the sides currently in the EFL, QPR could well manage to recoup a high transfer fee for Eze were he to be sold in the next transfer window – and it is thought that he is one of a number of talented young players Newcastle are monitoring.

The verdict

It is very clear to see why Eze is attracting so much interest from the Premier League, given he has demonstrated not only that he has the natural skill and flair you would want from an attacking midfielder, but also has shown this season that he has real end product in the final third.

QPR’s hopes of keeping hold of Eze beyond this season probably rest solely on whether they could mount a surprise late push for the play-offs in the Championship and earn promotion, but that is a long shot with Warburton’s side currently in the bottom half of the table with nine games to play.

Selling Eze could become very important for QPR in the next transfer window if they miss out on promotion, and would help the club avoid some of the financial damage associated with the current climate, so they could reluctantly allow him to depart the club.

Newcastle are the subject of a potential takeover, which would if completed provide them with the sort of funds needed to get Eze out of QPR, while West Ham would probably need to ensure that they survived in the Premier League if they were to be able to sign the 21-year-old.
