Newcastle and West Ham hit with unexpected and worrying latest update

Published

on

According to various reports which have been breaking over the course of the morning, Newcastle United and West Ham United are in trouble for tax evasion and national insurance fraud.

Sky Sports News HQ is one of the media outlets running the story and they claim that The London Stadium (West Ham) and St James’ Park (Newcastle) have been raided by police.

Reliable journalist George Caulkin of The Times added on Twitter that Newcastle (and another club, believed to be West Ham) are being investigated by HM Revenue and Customs over their transfer activity.

Caulkin added that Newcastle United’s managing director Lee Charnley has been arrested as authorities in England and France continue to clamp down on tax fraud.

It is unclear yet whether this investigation will lead to any criminal charges or whether either club will be hit with fines, transfer embargoes or points deductions.

A points deduction could affect Newcastle’s chances of promotion.
