Rotherham United will retain the service of Dan Barlaser for the remainder of the season if, of course, the League One season can be concluded.

Newcastle United placed faith in Rotherham to oversee the development of the midfielder back in the summer, with the 23-year-old thriving under Paul Warne.

In 27 League One appearances, Barlaser has scored two goals and registered a further five assists, playing a big part in putting the Millers on course for an immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship.

Now, Paul Davis from the Rotherham Advertiser has confirmed that there will be no problem with Barlaser resuming at Rotherham beyond the end of his current loan agreement, should the League One season resume and run into the summer.

Barlaser has struggled to make an impact at Newcastle, despite ticking well into his 20s.

Loan spells with Crewe and Accrington separate his move to Rotherham, who have been good to him and offered him a chance at the top of the League One table.

As things stand, Rotherham are second in the League One table to only Coventry City, with Warne’s side awaiting news on the season’s conclusion.

The Verdict

This is good news from Rotherham, despite the fact their season is in serious doubt.

If they get the chance to start up again, they’re on the verge of promotion, so not upsetting the balance by losing Barlaser is a positive thing.

The midfielder is a quality player and Rotherham has been a good place for him to develop, with his performances backing up the talent.
