Both Newcastle United and Leicester City are plotting a move for Brentford's Said Benrahma, reports the Surrey Comet.

Benrahma, 24, is enjoying another prolific season at Griffin Park.

He joined the club in 2018 from Nice and had an immediate impact, instantly winning over the fans with his flair-play, goals and assists.

This season started slowly for the Algerian though, as it did for the whole side. But he quickly found his scoring boots and Brentford quickly shot up the Championship table - they're now 5th-place, and looking nailed on for a play-off spot this season.

Benrahma has been behind everything good about Brentford this season and, alongside Ollie Watkins and Bryan Mbeumo in arguably the league's most potent front-three, they've managed to score 38 goals in the league between them.

Aston Villa were linked with a move for Benrahma in the January transfer window. Dean Smith was hoping to reunite with the winger but reportedly had a £20 million offer turned down by Brentford - the Surrey Comet understands that the club values him closer to £30 million.

It'd be another name who Brentford have bought for pennies and sold for millions - Benrahma cost the club just £1.5 million. A prime example of this is Neal Maupay - signed for £1.6 million in 2017 and sold to Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer for £20 million.

The verdict

Teams in the Championship will be wondering just how Brentford are doing it. They seem to have everything together right now - recruitment, development, business and a new stadium on the horizon.

They managed to keep hold of Benrahma through January and they'll be praying for Premier League football next season, or they run the risk of losing their Algerian to a team that is in the top-flight.
