Sky Bet Championship duo Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly expressed an interest in the services of former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, according to reports from the Express.
The two teams are thought to be keen to offer the ex-England international a one-year playing contract.
Magpies boss Rafa Benitez already knows the qualities he possesses, having managed him at the Blues during his brief tenure as interim manager.
He would be able to sign for either club as a free agent after announcing earlier this week he’d be leaving MLS side New York City when his contract expires next month, although reports suggest the 38-year-old would prefer one final season in the Premier League before he hangs up his boots.
Both the Magpies and Brighton will have to fight amongst themselves for the services of Frank Lampard, as well as compete for promotion to the top-flight with the two clubs currently occupying first and second in the Championship table.
