New Wigan Athletic signing Antonee Robinson has sent a personal message to the club's fans after he completed a permanent switch to the DW.

Having spent the previous season on loan with the Latics, the 21-year-old put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the club on Monday night, becoming Paul Cook's third signing of the summer.

Taking to Twitter, he said: "10 years at @Everton come to an end. Delighted to come back to @LaticsOfficial to start the next chapter in my career. Can’t wait to get started again!!"

He joins midfielder Lewis MacLeod and goalkeeper David Marshall, both free agents, through the door at the club as Cook looks to guide the Latics away from the drop-zone.

Rising through the ranks of the Toffees' youth sides, Robinson was sent out on loan for the first time during the 2017/18 campaign where he impressed with Bolton Wanderers.

But it was last season where he truly shone for the Latics, racking up 26 appearances and earning himself a call-up to United States national side, for whom he has now made seven apperances.

The verdict

This is a very good signing for the Latics, it must be said.

Robinson looked close to being a top Championship full-back and I am surprised they did not face more competition in securing his signature.

Cook will now be looking to get an entire season out of the youngster and, if he does, he could be worth an awful lot this time next year.

It would be nice to see him stay and become a legend with the club but that is just not the way things work out for clubs in the bottom half of the Championship.
