New West Ham man Hugill issues classy leaving message

Jordan Hugill looked set to stay and boost Preston’s outside chance of a late promotion bid until West Ham United came in with a late bid on deadline day that was too good to refuse.

BBC have reported that the fee offered for Hugill was around £10m, which is a record for the club, and was enough for them to part with their main striking talent without any time left in which to replace him.

Hugill does not seem like the kind of player who would have thrown his toys out of the pram if he wasn’t given a move to the Premier League and he has issued a classy message to the Preston fans.

He posted on Twitter: “”Now the dust has settled and it’s had time to sink in a bit, I think it’s the right time to say thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey so far.

“Thank you to all the boys at Preston, I’ve made some good friends in them and I’m going to miss you all and I hope you catch up with you all soon.

“Thank you to all the staff at Preston, coaches and back room staff too. Throughout the years you have helped and guided me on my way to today and I will be forever grateful.

“Finally to all the fans who have stuck by me throughout every hurdle, I’ve made a lot of memories with Preston, it’s a great club and has been a great platform for me to get to this point in my career.

“It’s now time to make some amazing new memories at West Ham. It’s an amazing opportunity and one I’m very grateful for, I can not wait to get started.”

The Verdict

Hugill’s statement shows the mark of the man and also how hungry he will be to keep working hard to improve and make a success of his Premier League move.

So much of his success is down to hard work and making the most of the people around him and he will have to continue that if he is to make the step up a level.
