New West Brom signing Sam Johnstone has admitted that even a top six finish this season isn't the aim at Albion, insisting they should be finishing in the top two.

The keeper, who had an excellent season for Aston Villa last year, completed a £6.5m move from Manchester United to The Hawthorns yesterday.

And, he told the Express & Star that the objectives at his new club are clear, as they look to bounce back to the Premier League.

The 25-year old knows all too well the disappointment of play-off failure after his heartbreak with Villa in May and is determined to go one better with their West Midlands rivals.

"Look at the players we’ve got here. You’re not even looking at a play-off final, you’re looking at automatic. It is a tough league, it’s two games a week and everyone is fighting to either go up or stay up."

"But hopefully the quality and the experience (in the squad) will take the club straight back up."

The Verdict

This is a fantastic signing for West Brom and it shows that they are serious about returning to the top-flight immediately.

Such ambition will have appealed to Johnstone and he clearly wants automatic promotion next season and they do have the squad to do it.

Ultimately though, there will be more work to be done in the market and then it will be down to the players to deliver when it matters.
