There has been no fresh bids for Martyn Waghorn from Sheffield United, according to Ipswich Town site twtd.co.uk.

It was widely reported at the weekend that Chris Wilder had put in a second bid for the former Rangers striker after being rebuffed first time around.

The initial bid, thought to be £5m, was rejected on Friday, but the Blades' pursuit was not believed to have ended.

That came despite the report suggesting the Tractor Boys would be looking for between £8m and £10m for the player they signed from Rangers for a fee thought to be under £1m just a year ago.

Sheffield United are not alone in their pursuit, big-spending Nottingham Forest are also thought to want to add the striker to their ranks, but no side has put in a fresh bid over the weekend.

Waghorn began his career at Sunderland, but has also featured for Leicester, Hull, Wigan and Charlton before his move north of the border to Ibrox.

He scored 44 times in 78 outings for Rangers before Mick McCarthy signed him for Ipswich, where he hit 16 Championship goals.

The Verdict

Paul Hurst isn't going to be bullied into letting his asset go cheap, not when he needs funds for his own rebuilding project at Portman Road.

There's bound to be a fresh bid though, it might not have come yet and the Blades might be waiting to see what happens with Sam Gallagher, but surely one of the pursuing clubs is going to meet the £8m-£10m asking price.
