Reading boss Jose Gomes will have realised the magnitude of the task he has on his hands with the Royals as they were thrashed 4-1 at home to Swansea on New Years Day.

It's evident that the current crop of players that Gomes has to deal with aren't cut out to his possession based style of football.

But the January transfer window couldn't have come at a better time, and the Reading boss will be looking to make wholesale changes as quickly as possible as they battle to retain their Championship status.

Journalist, Courtney Friday has suggested Gomes will be deciding the fate of his entire squad on Wednesday, with some players deeming to be surplus to requirements.

It's sure to be a make or break transfer window for the Royals, as if they get it wrong, then they will drop into League One, which will be their worst nightmare.

But what business should Gomes be looking to do this month?

Find out here....

Reading have a number of players that aren't getting enough game time, which Gomes will be wanting to move on at the earliest of opportunities.

The Royals also have far too many players in their squad that aren't pulling their weight this season, and they should also be looking to move those players on this month.

The likes of Marc McNulty, David Meyler and Pelle Clement could be some of the first names heading for the exit door at the Madejski Stadium.

Gomes has tried to implicate a possession based style at Reading which will be pleasing to see for many supporters.

But some of the current players he has at his disposal simply aren't suited to this new set up.

The Reading boss will need to bring in players that are more suited and comfortable with the ball at their feet.

Reading have only scored two goals in their last six league games, which is not a good statistic to read.

They have the likes of Yakou Meite and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson available, but the pair have struggled for consistent goals this season.

Gomes is surely likely to bring in a striker to help fire his side out of the relegation zone.
