Swansea City fans, cast your minds back to the 31st August 2016, when the club confirmed the capture of a highly-rated defender.

It was the day they signed Alfie Mawson from Barnsley after an impressive season with the Tykes.

See how Swansea fans reacted to his signing at the time, below.

Mawson was hugely impressive for the Swans in his time with the club, but it wasn't a long-term signing, as he spent just two seasons with the club.

The central defender made 71 appearances in total for Swansea before signing for Premier League new boys, Fulham for a fee believed to be in the region of £20m.

Mawson was a rare bright spark in a disappointing season for Swansea as they were relegated to the Championship, so it came as no surprise to see him depart the club shortly after.

But he hasn't endured the best of times with Fulham in this year's league campaign, and they are looking like one of the favourites to drop back into the Championship after just one season in the top-flight.

The 25-year-old has made 14 appearances in total for Fulham but hasn't featured since their 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town and has struggled with injury problems.

With competition for places high in the Fulham squad, it seems unlikely that Mawson will be able to force his way back into the starting XI anytime soon, and he'll surely have one eye on preparing for life back in the Championship.

It's likely we'll see him come up against Swansea as well, as their season looks to be fizzling out with nothing to play for.
