New Stoke City man Benik Afobe has been speaking to the Birmingham Mail, and says that Gary Rowett was the big reason he chose to join the Potters from Wolves.

Afobe made the surprise move from the Premier League newcomers only a few weeks back, signing a six month loan deal with Stoke and the club having an obligation to buy in January.

The pacey frontman had only made the return to Wolves in January of this year following un unproductive spell with Bournemouth, and it came as a big surprise when he announced he would sign for the Potters under new manager Rowett.

However, it now appears that Rowett was the key reason for Afobe making the move, with the striker insisting he 'believes' in what the former Derby manager is trying to do.

"What he told me made me feel very comfortable – I believe in what he is trying to achieve and I want to help us get back where we belong. The manager clearly believes in me and that’s something that every player wants. I’m hoping I can repay him by scoring some goals and helping the team win games." added Afobe.

Afobe only actually completed a permanent move to Molineux two weeks ago, but Wolves agreed to let him move on with the club expected to make some big signings this summer. Stoke will pay for Afobe in January in a deal which will be worth more to Wolves than the fee they paid Bournemouth.
