Fulham left it until the eleventh hour to make their transfer deadline day swoop for Newcastle's Serbian international striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

With interest from Anderlecht and doubts over the striking situation at St James' Park, the Cottagers had to be patient and act quickly but they got their man, who made his debut in the 2-0 home win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

That win took Fulham up into fifth, and it was also their fifth straight win. They are full of momentum right now and the arrival of the Serbian international will only boost that.

Sky Sports have reported the two reasons that Mitrovic chose to come to Craven Cottage in the end - Slavisa Jokanovic and the attacking brand of football that the Serb has Fulham playing.

He said: "There was a lot of clubs but it was Fulham, first of all because of the coach, and then because of the style of football that Fulham play.

"For me, they played the best football in the Championship last season and they've continued that this season, so this is one of the reasons why I moved here."

The Verdict

It is little surprise that the opportunity to work alongside his countryman Jokanovic - who will fancy his chances of getting Mitrovic to knuckle down and will also emphasise the importance of playing well in the lead up to the World Cup - was a factor in what is an impressive coup for Fulham.

His words about Fulham's style of play are also revealing. The club have needed a reliable striker for 18 months now and if Mitrovic can get himself into the positions to finish off the chances, he could fire the club into the Premier League.
