The midfielder has already made numerous appearances in the top flight with Aston Villa and Crystal Palace respectively, and he firmly believes the Owls have what it takes to make a long awaited return to the Premier League.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Bannan said:''The potential is there and once everyone gets used to playing together I think we will be there or thereabouts''.

Sheffield Wednesday have made numerous signings this summer in an attempt to give new Head Coach Carlos Carvalhal a good opportunity for promotion this season.

Bannan was made one of fifteen signings after being released by Crystal Palace and the 25- year-old was given a one year contract.

Bannan is fully aware he is not guaranteed game time and is more than happy to fight for a place in the starting 11, saying ''It's a good thing really because it means you can't rest on your laurels''

Sheffield Wednesday currently sit in 15th place in the Sky Bet Championship in what has been a mediocre start to their 2015/16 campaign, with the club winning once, drawing twice and losing twice.

Fans of the Sheffield club will undoubtedly be hoping that Bannan can bring an element of creativity that will help create more opportunities - and ultimately propel them up the division and get them as near as possible to the play-off spots in the division.
