Sheffield Wednesday defender Aden Flint has reiterated his excitement of being able to play in front of the fans after signing on loan from Stoke City.

The defender missed the opportunity to do so in his first loan spell at the club, with games being played behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 33-year-old centre-back completed a loan move to Hillsborough on Friday afternoon, signing on until the end of the season from Stoke City, and his experience could be a big factor for the Owls going forward.

He has been named on the bench against Fleetwood Town in the FA Cup, so he may have to wait a little bit longer to take in that experience on the pitch pre-game. But in speaking to the media prior to the game, Flint told club media: “I’ve played there before. But with no fans.

"So it’ll be good to be there with the crowd, and hopefully full houses as we try and carry on this winning streak that we’ve got.

I’m looking forward to the first home game when the crowd are singing Hi Ho Silver Lining, it’s going to be a good one, that.”

Flint only signed for Stoke last summer and was a regular up until October before losing his place in the side. He is yet to start a game since then which will no doubt make him hungry to make up for lost time with the Owls.

Wednesday are in a prime position to push for promotion in League One, with Flints experience potentially being incredibly valuable in the second half of the season.

The Verdict

Sheffield Wednesday were desperate for a centre back and in signing Flint, they have brought in an incredibly experienced defender who boasts plenty of know-how when it comes to winning promotion from League One.

Flint was an important figure for Bristol City during their title-winning campaign several years ago and that experience could be essential.

With competition high for a place in the automatics, Flint feeding off the hunger of the supporters could be huge for the Owls as they look to continue pushing on under Darren Moore this season.
