Reading's January signing Felipe Araruna has spoken out over his decision to move to the Madejski during the winter window.

The Brazilian made the move from Sao Paulo on a three-year deal and made his debut during the Royals' 1-1 draw with Hull City on Saturday afternoon, replacing Chris Gunter as a first-half substitute.

And, after he was recalled from a loan spell by the South American giants, Araruna said that there was no where else he wanted to move.

“I went back to Sau Paulo and had the opportunity to be here," he said after the game, reported by The Reading Chronicle.

"I did not look at anywhere else, I just wanted to come over to Reading. I’m very happy here.

“England is a good place to play, all the players in the world want to play here.”

QUIZ: Are these 15 ex-Reading players still playing – yes or no?

The 23 year-old had made 28 appearances for Fortaleza during his first loan spell, contributing one assist from deep midfield, and will be hoping to add more attacking contributions under Mark Bowen's stewardship.

Following the final whistle during their clash with Hull City, Reading found themselves sitting in 16th place and ten points clear of the relegation zone.

Tomorrow sees them welcome table-toppers West Brom, however, in what is sure to be a serious test of the club and their new signings.

The verdict

It is easy to be cynical about comments like this but the reality is that any young player playing in Brazil will be tempted by the prospect of playing in England.

Reading may not be the glamorous club they all dream of and Araruna may not have had posters of Adam Le Fondre on his wall growing up, but it is a sensible move from him.

He will have known that if he could impress at Reading then a move to the top-flight may not be far away either.
