Given Steve McClaren’s years of experience in management and coaching at the very highest level there will be a real buzz of excitement around Queens Park Rangers by the time the 2018/19 campaign gets underway.

McClaren might be keen to play down any thoughts that he can turn the club into challengers for the play-offs next season but that won't stop him delving into an extensive contacts book to try and create a squad capable of great things.

With Nedum Onuoha recently departed from Loftus Road one area that McClaren might decide to strengthen is at the heart of the defence and a move for Richard Keogh could make logical sense.

The Derby County man was McClaren's captain during his two spells with the Rams and with new boss Frank Lampard possibly under pressure to sell some of his better players this summer, it could open the door for Keogh to depart Pride Park.

The 31-year-old is not the best footballer in the Championship but what he lacks in talent he more than makes up for with raw defensive qualities and bucket loads of passion.

Having spent some time on the sidelines during the 2017/18 campaign Keogh might see the chance to link back up with his former boss as the perfect opportunity to begin a new chapter in his career following six years at Derby.
