Plymouth Argyle's first summer signing under new manager Derek Adams, Gary Sawyer, told the Plymouth Herald  that Argyle ''was always on my mind''.

Could Plymouth manager Derek Adams make a move for Jordon Forster in the next few weeks?
Sawyer is delighted to be back at Plymouth

Sawyer made 95 appearances for the Pilgrims between 2002 and 2010, spending time on loan at rivals Exeter City in that time. He then joined Bristol Rovers before joining Leyton Orient from where he was released from his contract this summer.

The 29-year-old could not hide his excitement after rejoining the club close to his heart. He said: ''It’s always been on my mind to come back so I’m delighted to put the Argyle shirt back on and play for the club. It has been a while since I was last here, as I left many years ago, but I always saw myself coming back here so I’m buzzing to finally be back''

Sawyer came up through the ranks at Home Park and feels he still has a lot to give for the club and supporters who brought him into the game.

''This club brought me into the game so I’d like to think the fans are happy to have me back. From their point of view, with me being a product of the youth system, I hope that they enjoy having someone around who knows a bit about the club and what it means to them.''

The former Leyton Orient defender becomes new manager Derek Adams' first signing since taking over from previous manager John Sheridan and Sawyer revealed he was looking forward to working under his management.

''I met Derek a couple of weeks ago for a coffee to touch base and I was really impressed with the way he conducts himself and the football he likes to play. He’s got a lot of ambition and we seem very much on the same page in terms of work ethic.''

''I like to play as hard as I can and he wants to play some football that will get Argyle into a higher division – because right now they are in the wrong division. When you speak to him he’s got a fantastic hunger for success. He’s a young manager with some great new ideas so I can’t wait to start working with him.''
