According to the Birmingham Mail new Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has told manager Roberto Di Matteo to get rid of the players who are “really bad” for Villa.
Di Matteo is preparing to wield the axe on numerous players that have proven languorous or sit on a high wage that Villa don’t need. Even though Xia won’t directly outline his spending plans he has promised to spend big and to help him free up funds players will be sold with deadwood like Gabriel Agbonlahor reportedly for the chop.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, he said: “I didn’t specify how much money Roberto Di Matteo has to spend. I said he needs money to get the right players and move out the ones who are really bad for this team.
“We will support the management team to do the right things.”
With Di Matteo taking the reigns at Villa Park and his objective to take the club back to the Premier League, it will please the Italian to hear he has the backing of his new owner.
One of Di Matteo’s big tasks will be to bring some team spirit and unity back to the team after last season proved to be a disaster for the Villains as the season went from bad to worse, even though they won their opening game of the season.
There is a real lack of connection at the minute between fans the team, and Di Matteo will be hoping he can bring some new names in, as well as shift some out, as he tries to emulate the team spirit he built during his short tenure in charge of Chelsea.
